5G PILOT TESTS APPROVATED
The Sucre Diferente Government supports pilot tests in 5G technologies in the municipality of Tolú, which already has permits from MinTIC for the use of the radioelectric spectrum.
The great news comes after the Ministry of Technologies and Communications authorized, through Resolution 001042 of June 23, 2020, a total of 5 companies, among them the Research and Development Laboratory of Tolú ID:TOLÚ, through its local partner Xiro Investments Group, to conduct 5G Broadcast tests in the 500 MHz band and 5G New Radio point-to-multipoint in the 3550 MHz – 3700 MHz band.
This great achievement for Sucre is possible thanks to the efforts made by Governor Héctor Olimpo Espinosa, allowing mobile technology to be the platform to create business opportunities and entrepreneurship.
ID:TOLÚ, a company that expects to have the first results within 6 months, is based in the municipality of Santiago de Tolú. It has direct ties with international companies and will be dedicated to research and development in new communications technologies. It has the institutional support of the Governor’s Office of Sucre and the Mayor’s Office of Santiago de Tolú.
Likewise, ID:TOLÚ works closely with the University of Sucre in a framework cooperation agreement for research and development as well as for advanced academic training.
It is worth mentioning that the latest generation 5G test platform of the German company Rohde and Schwarz will be used for the homologation of the systems.
Governor Héctor Olimpo Espinosa has supported this initiative since its inception, closely following the opportunities it represents for the benefit of the people of Sucre.
This cooperation between national and international researchers, national and local government entities and local academia, led by the University of Sucre, is open to all entities present in the region.
The multiple alliance of sectors and entities will allow the formation of an ecosystem that will drive departmental development with employment opportunities, generation of human talent and improvement of the quality of life.
The Municipality of Santiago de Tolú and the Department of Sucre will be the epicenter of research in new communications technologies in Latin America, and will put the Department on the radar for new investments in other areas due to the great climate that is being created in Sucre, which contributes to the development of the country. The main purpose of the Ministry is the deployment and massification of 5G technology.
For his part, the president of ID:TOLÚ, engineer Juan Pablo Álviz, said that this project is brought to our land with great social responsibility and with important international support.
